From the beginning of time, humans have been fascinated with the concept of flight. Perhaps one of the most noteworthy individuals to express such vivid curiosity was Leonardo da Vinci. Through examining his codex of flight at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, a group of three individuals (myself included) was inspired to create our own flying machine. This "kite" of sorts took part of a design competition in reverence to da Vinci, and thus won an award of excellence for its demonstration of craft, design, and aerodynamics. Our flying machine, along with the others entered into the competition, had the privilege to fly our "kites" on the National Mall in Washington D.C. in the shadow of the Washington Monument.
