Knowledge of tectonics and construction is an invaluable skill for any architect. This knowledge is precious, but perhaps an even more valuable capability is designing the tectonic of a space itself. This project explores the possibilities of wood, steel, and masonry construction in order to promote understanding of material in both tectonic and perceptual conditions. The program is a small bikeshare center in Washington D.C. capable of private and public bike storage along with restroom access. Ultimately, the typology of kinetic architecture was chosen as a focus of exploration. Spatial and material tectonic conditions of movement were designed through attention to structural assembly details.
